25 Year reunion / Classes of 81 - 85
are invited
Hello everyone.I'm going to be completely honest... we need HELP.
Donations have been almost non-existent. We have only enough to reserve the
space. We would like to do more (offer free drinks, snacks, maybe even a
basic BBQ?). Any donation is good. Contact me and I'll give you the address
to send a check or a PayPal address for electronic donations.
Second things you can do... SPREAD THE WORD! Tell everyone you know. Tell
them twice. We obviously don't have enough money to send out postcards so we
need you to tell two friends who tell two friends who tell two friends and
so on and so on and so on.... Include people in the classes around ours;
this event is open to "Friends of '83" also.
25-Year Reunion for '83 and Friends of '83
Saturday, August 23rd
Swanston Park (two blocks from Encina)
Lawn, Shade, Basketball, Tennis, and a free SplashZone for the kids (and
young at heart)
Thank you for whatever help you can give,
Eric Storm
+++++
It's official... your Reunion Committee has picked an event, a place, and a
date.
All of this is "proposed" right now so read the whole email to find out how
YOU can make it real.
25-Year Reunion for '83 and Friends of '83
Saturday, August 23rd
Swanston Park (two blocks from Encina)
Lawn, Shade, Basketball, Tennis, and a free SplashZone for the kids (and
young at heart)
Time: still working on it but sometime in the early afternoon
Fun and easy "Family Picnic and BBQ" in a wonderfully renovated local park.
Here's where YOU can help. We need to reserve the space and plan just how
much to supply. Can we have coolers of drinks for you to help yourself?
Can we offer salads and snacks? Can we go as far as burgers and hot-dogs?
It is all up to you!
We need donations. Yes, even to reserve. Your committee is small and there
is no "surplus" to draw from.
We don't really want to try and charge at the event. We know you want to
come, hang out, and have fun and nobody wants to be trying to figure out who
paid and who to turn away. So... help us out NOW. How about a couple of
bucks to get us going? Skip Starbucks for two days and send us $10? Pack a
lunch and send us $20? No amount is too small (honest) or too big (well...
$1,000 would probably freak us out so let's avoid that).
Send an email to encina83@yahoo.com and we'll tell you where to mail a
check.
Sorry to guilt-trip you but... NO response means NO REUNION! We have to
move quickly to secure the site.

Lynda Risucci writes:
Occupation: Administrative Assistant/Legal Assistant for Union
Pacific Railroad Company Law Department, Roseville, California.
Bio: I have been working in the legal field since graduating from high
school. I worked several years for personal injury attorneys in the
Sacramento area. Decided to switch to the defense side, and have been
working with the Roseville Law Department for the Union Pacific Railroad for
the past five years and hope to retire there.
Bought a house out in Roseville nine years ago and have watched Roseville
"grow up." Hope to some day move up to Newcastle or somewhere up in the
hills to escape "subdivision" living. Would love to have acreage some day
and have room to breathe!
Trivia: Can't really think of any. I did win a trip for two to Europe when
I was 19 from FM102. It was a blast. Ten countries in two weeks. Got to
experience Italy for the first time and can't wait to go back!
Friends: Lost contact with everyone, with the exception of Kerry Stewart,
who I see from time-to-time (I am good friends with his brother, Keven).
Recently, I have exchanged emails with Samantha, Jenna, and Tiffany Powell,
which has been great. Hope to see them all (and everyone else) in July!
Hobbies: I love to run and try to do fun runs on the weekends for all the
different charities in the area. Have completed a half marathon, and hope to
run a marathon - someday..
And, for more excitement (?), I work at the Pottery Barn at the Galleria
Mall usually one night a week, as I seem to be addicted to buying their
merchandise. Can't beat the discount, and it is a fun store to work at
(after working eight hours in an office during the day!). Come in and say
hi!
I also try to spend my free time volunteering with Homeward Bound Golden
Retriever Rescue. It is a great organization that my friend got me involved
me. I am a "foster mom" for dogs in need of temporary homes. Problem is, I
want to keep every dog I take in, so this remains to be a "problem" for me.
I thoroughly enjoy being a part of this organization.
Kids: I don't have any "human" kids...yet, but hope to. I do have a Golden
Retriever, Tucker, whom I love to death. My first "kid" was a German
Shepherd, Justice, who was my pride and joy. He was 110 pounds of love.
Was the best companion, running partner, and protector I could have asked
for. Lost him last Summer. Worst day of my life.
Grade_school: Wilson Elementary School, San Bernardino, California.
Junior_high: Golden Valley Junior High School, San Bernardino, California.
Memorable_teachers: Mr. Lawrence, English Teacher. Wonderful person and
teacher.

Occupation: I work at Scoggan Co.,Inc dba Drive Line Service of
Sacramento were I am office manager and account manager.
Bio: In February 1983 I turned 18 and decided to sign myself out of Encina.
My mother had a fit but sent me to Winterstein Adult ed to "finish" School.
Since I had already paid for my Hawaii Senior trip I decided I was going
anyway. I went to Hawaii and didn't return for a year and a half. Most of it
was a blurr but I learned alot about people and myself. I came home and met
my husband at T.G.I. Fridays and 17 years later have a home, two kids, two
cats in the yard, life used to be so hard, Ha Ha I couldn't resist. I have
been in Elk Grove for 15 years.
Trivia: I never participated in things at school. Now I'm involved in too
many things!!! I am always at swim meets because my son swims at Arden Hills
and both my kids swim on their High school teams.I've volunteered for
fundraising for sober grad night, took on seven junior high school students
as their coach for oddesey of the mind and am helping with sober grad night
for Laguna High School. Maybe I'm making up for missing out back then.
Friends: I came to Encina in my Junior Year. I remember meeting Traci Mott
on registration day. She was new and so was I so it just seemed like we
should hang out together. That was the best year I ever had in High School!
We became friends with Julie Cox,Syndee Flemmer,Jim March, Randy Wall and
Dusty Garver. I had a boyfriend from another school but we would get
together most weekends. When I saw on the news that Randy had died I was so
sad. I've lost contact with everyone from high school mainly because I
didn't come back from Hawaii for so long.
Hobbies: Righ now I don't have a life, My kids are my life but after they
leave the nest I plan on lots of R and R with my husband in warm sunny
places. I like to go wine tasting and outlet shopping, when I have spare
time.

excellent writer and maintains a 4.+ GPA. She writes for the school
newspaper. Brandy plays water polo in the fall and

School. He maintains a 3.+ GPA an is enjoying school. He has been swimming
for Arden Hills for four years. Look for his name in the oylmpics 2008!
Memorable_teachers: Mr. Lawrence, English, He used
to do the weirdest stuff that would always get my attention. Senor Gonzales,
Spainish III, He would show up at my work in the afternoon if I cut his
class and ask me why I could be at work and not at school. At the time it
was annoying but looking back it's not so annoying anymore.
Favorite_memory: My Junior prom was my favorite
memory from Encina. I don't remember who was King or Queen just that Mike
(my boyfriend from Bella Vista)and I were hanging out with
Traci,Dusty,Jim,Randy,Julie and I forgot the rest.I remember laughing alot.

dances, senior lawn, the Snack Bar, the Encina Asylum newspaper

and have lost contact with everyone. Sorry!
Grade_school: Sierra Oaks School
Junior_high: J-O-N-A-S...S-A-L-K...LET'S GO!
Memorable_teachers: All the teachers were great (except for that math
teacher who used to "allow" us to sit on his lap during break. Remember
him?) Señor Gonzalez probably sticks out most in my mind since we all went
to Mexico for eight crazy days and I continued on with Spanish. I
appreciated Mr. Sander a lot.
Favorite_memory: Lots of good memories. I think our class had a lot of
spirit. Rallies, games, parties. What an innocent time back then. Lots of
drama too, right? Doing math homework on the phone with Eric Johnson and
Peter Budlong.
Story: I don't know if I should share this: The Spanish Club went to
Mexico. One of the first days in Mexico my two crazy roommates and I got in
big trouble. (I want to say one roommate was Kris Bacagalupi? I'm really
bad with names.) Anyway, we had already been busted for walking the hotel
hallways after curfew. To make matters worse, we called the boys and
invited them to our room. (And I think the boys were Matt Kirk, Steve
Knight and Jeff Vetter, maybe?) We were going to play a prank on them.
Since the door locked automatically when closed, we propped the door open a
bit and turned off the light. When we heard the knock on the door, we
started making "sex" noises, pretending we were having sex and trying to say
sexy things in Spanish. When we heard the knock louder, we made louder sex
noises. Suddenly we heard a male voice: "Are there any Encina High School
Spanish students in there?!" the voice demanded. It was Mr. Gonzalez! That
was SO embarrassing! He came to tell us we were grounded and couldn'
comments: I am looking for Eric Johnson and Jim Shoemaker. Please get in
touch with me.
I am really thankful to have attended such a nice high school. With all the
craziness going on now in the world, it is nice to have some good teenage

I am sorry for those classmates who have already passed. Peace to all.

Occupation: writer/editor/proofreader; half-time legal secretary
Bio: Work/School: 1983-83: Worked for Calif. Dept. of Parks & Recreation, at
the Old Governor's Mansion, Sutter's Fort, and Sugar Pine Point. 1985-97:
Worked for the Rideshare program of CalTrans/Sacramento Area Council of
Governments until it got downsized to almost nothing. 1997-2000: Attended
CSUS full time and finally finished my B.A. in English, with minors in Latin
and Statistics. Now: Working for Dan Gallery, an attorney specializing in
water rights; working sort of on call for the South Natomas Transportation
Management Association (once a transportation geek, always a transportation
geek); working with my partner, Joan, on our writing/editing/etc. business,
Women of Words; editing the weekly newsletter of First United Methodist
Church.
Personal stuff: Came out of the closet right after high school. Scampered
back in not much later--boy do I not miss the 80s. "Got saved" in late '88
and spent about 7 years trying real hard to be a good little ungay
right-winger (got the emotional scars & memorized Bible verses to prove it).
Finally concluded that God loves and prefers me the way God created me, got
some good therapy, came back out of the closet, and got disowned by a whole
church and my best friends. Found a church (First UMC) that isn't into
disowning. Found new friends. Found love with my best friend Joan (7 years
in May). Meanwhile, dealt with a seizure disorder which the nice folks at
Kaiser insisted for years was imaginary--it's not, and I'm very thankful for
anticonvulsants. I run marathons now--Dublin (Ireland) in 2001, Portland
(Oregon) in 2002, Boston this coming April.
Trivia: I raised $6600 for the American Diabetes Association in 2001 and ran
the Dublin Marathon for Team Diabetes.
Kristine LiVecchi ('84) recently received the same scholarship at CSUS that
I received when I was there. Go Krist!
Friends: Maya Ibser, Eric Storm, Mark Winchester, Diana Majesty (now Amber
Zicaro), Lisa Kuhl, Michael Smith, Kristine LiVecchi, Elisabeth (Lisa)
Nunziato ('85? I see her every once in a while when we go to a play she's
in), others of course. I was a mess in high school, but I had great friends
to see me through the darkness.
Hobbies: Running. Cooking, especially Indian food. Reading. Doing New York
Times crosswords. Going to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival every year with
Joan. Singing in the church choir.
Kids: We only have the furry kind: Tigger, Ophelia, George--our cats. Thanks
to my sister (Cara, '85), I have an adorable nephew.

school was in Santa Barbara and Middletown.
Junior_high: Jonas Salk.
Junior_high_friends: Eric, Michael, Diana/Amber, David Casavantes (he went
to Rio)
Memorable_teachers:
Joe Lawrence--I write and run because of him. Thanks, Joe.
Susie McGuire--a great friend to me in hard times.
Jack Carey--a dear man.
Hazel Watters--she gave me a passing grade in Physics! Ha!
Lynn Begg--she's my mom. Hi Mom! You rock!
Favorite_memory: I don't know--perhaps playing the piano for the choirs the
year after graduation.

that at the time I was devastated but now it makes me giggle. For the
record though - it was always Matt Kirk I had the crush on! =)

Charlene Harrison writes:
Occupation: Writer, Artist
Bio: After graduation I worked full time at a Skipper's restaurant and tried to decide
what I wanted to do with my life. I seriously considered signing up for the Air
Force, and was in that process when I met my husband, Allen. I had taken a part-time
Christmas job with the Sears in the Arden Fair Mall, and he was a plain-clothes security
agent there, working his way through college. It was practically love at first sight, and
we were married the spring of 1984. He had just graduated from Sac State with a
degree in Criminal Justice, and was in the Army Reserves, preparing for a tour of active
duty. So I became an Army wife rather than an Air Force one! It was actually
quite fun: we were assigned stateside the entire time, first in Alabama, then Virginia and
finally Washington state. We played golf and traveled a lot, visiting Washington
D.C., the Florida coast, and even went fishing in an aluminum fishing boat in the Atlantic
Ocean! Our two oldest children, Steven and Margaret, were born during those years.
After Allen's return to the Army Reserves in 1988, we came home to California so
that we could be closer to family. The rest of our children were born there, where
we were surrounded by loving extended family on both sides. While my husband built
his career, I continued to be a homemaker and I devoted myself to homeschooling our
school-age children. Along the way, I learned to sew and do many artistic crafts,
which I still enjoy. In 1994 Allen was promoted within his company, RadioShack, to
manage a store in Rhonert Park. We moved to Petaluma, where the World Wrist
Wrestling Championships are held every year. I suppose the notoriety of the town
inspired me, and I began writing short stories and poetry. My first story, "Midnight
Surprise", was published the following year. In 1998 my husband was promoted
again, this time halfway across the country, to South Dakota. We spent two years in
Aberdeen, where I worked as a freelance journalist for the local newspaper and learned
public speaking. My husband was promoted again in March of 2000, training as a
District Manager for RadioShack. Currently (11/01) we live in Fargo, North Dakota.
Trivia: in 1997-1999 I was also developing a career as a children's entertainer with the
WHIM Agency of Mill Valley, where I organized and performed in children's events,
traveling anywhere from San Jose to Napa in my face-painting costumes. (See-- all those
art classes really paid off!)
Friends: "Speedbump","Mickey", Steve, Terence, Darryl-- all were great
friends. I have reconnected with "Speedbump" and just sent Terence an
email. But the others I haven't talked to since school.
Hobbies: Writing and painting are my favorite hobbies, of course. I also love to
read, especially the sci-fi/fantasy genre. I enjoy sewing and doing practically any
craft I can get my hands on. I love to fish and camp with my family, for weeks and
weeks. I golf, though not well.
Kids: Steve is a junior in highschool as of this writing; he's headed into the military
after graduation. Margaret is a freshman, sensitive and artistic, the only
left-handed one like me. Philip is in junior high, sanguine and outgoing, friends
with everyone. William is in 5th grade, musical and always whistling or playing
Robin Hood. Mark is 9, loyal and affectionate, he's my shopping buddy. John
passed away this past summer, in a swimming accident; he was 7. He was (and I am
sure still is) always smiling and asking lots of questions. He loved to cook and
owned his first cookbook at 5. John's memorial page is on our church's website, www.prairievewweb.com. Follow the links in

Moore and we're still going strong after 18 years (kinda proud of that as not too many
people can say that). I got pregnany my senior year and didn't actually graduate
from Encina (finished up at El Camino) although I went there for my Freshman, Sophomore,
& Junior years. We have two kids too. When our daughter started
kindergarden, I went to Heald Business College. Eventually went to work for a local
CPA firm (5 years) and then then owners sold the practice so I went to work for another,
substantially larger, firm (been there 11+ years). In addition to my job with the
accounting firm, on the side I'm also a Branch Advisor for the Longaberger Company (maker
of handwoven baskets in Ohio) and have been doing that for about 7 years now (love it).
Trivia: Our daughter and I had the same 2nd grade teacher.
Friends: I didn't socialize a lot with people from Encina (hung out with people from Rio).
My best friend was Jill Haney (she has since moved to Texas, is divorced with two
kids and seems to be very happy). As a freshman, also hung out with Lisa Ball and
Robin Durham (have no idea what happened to them). Shared a locker with Kevin

Sutter Memorial in Sacramento and died in Sacramento 2 weeks after his first anniversary
of the much publicized transplant. I attended the 1 yr Gala with him and the 9 other
patients that followed in his footsteps. I think he should be recognized for this historic
event. He has 2 other brothers, one younger Chris-1985 and one older Greg-1982. I know
that Chris also developed the same condition as Randy (enlarged Heart) and was also
scheduled for a transplant. This was passed on by their Father who also passed at a very
young age(Late 40's). He lived in Los Angeles and I do not know what the outcome was of
his operation since I have lost touch with his family. Julie Cox 83 |
