Subject: Encina Update (reunions/2nd gen/classmates.com/classof71/mcclernon/larson/hansen/valle/correction/directories/basile/masters/gallery/store/whats new) Date:Thu, 15 Apr 1999 11:36:51 -0700 ENCINA ALUMNI, This has been a busy week in terms of finding alumni. The combination of many siblings in conjunction with lots of new listings on www.classmates.com resulted in a large number of new directory listings. Welcome to all the new alumni found on the classmates website! This week I received email out of the blue from Ben Franklin 73, an old friend who I've known since Greer Elementary. I've enjoyed corresponding with Ben this week and catching up on the past 25 years. Ah, the magic of the internet. REUNION COMMITTEES If you are involved in a reunion this year, please check your class directory periodically for new classmates who have been added. I am forwarding contact information forms to reunion chairs as they are submitted to me, but often times there are siblings from years having reunions. These make it into the class directory since I know how to contact them indirectly through a sibling. But I often forget to forward the fact that I know how to contact a sibling to the reunion contact. Not enough hours in the day I'm afraid. For example, through Rob McClernon we can now contact Dan McClernon 74 Laure McClernon 79 through Dwight Hansen 74 we can contact Sherri Hansen 79 through Mary Kay Valle 72 we can contact Carolyn Valle 69 and through Ben Franklin 73 we can contact Janie Franklin 69 You get the idea. This is why sibling information is so valuable! REUNIONS The classes which plan to have reunions this year are: 1964 1969 Alan Dankman (adankman@worldnet.att.net) 1974 Bob Goosmann (Magusbob@hotmail.com) 1979 Laura Graff Allred (pacwest@foothill.net) Great Reunions: info@greatreunions.com 1984 1989 Janice Barnes (jabarnes@dttus.com) 1994 Candy Mleczko (candym229@hotmail.com) If you have a sibling or friend without email from one of these years, please let them know about their class reunion! Please contact me if you know anyone on the reunion committee for the classes of 64 and 84. SECOND GENERATION We have a fourth second generation family. Nicolee Sorenson Smith 89 is the daughter of Melody Poplawski Barnett 66. Any more? CLASSMATES.COM I periodically check the alumni website classmates.com. Last week I found about 30 new Encina alumni whom I contacted about the Encina website. CLASS OF 71 As I mentioned in a previous Update, Michael Billings 71 sent me the memory books for their 20th and 25th reunions. There are links on the 71 class directory, 71 homepage and Photos page to these memory books. The 20th reunion memory book: http://www.encinahighschool.com/class71/reunion20/photos.htm The 25th reunion memory book: http://www.encinahighschool.com/class71/reunion25/photos.htm If you didn't attend the reunion you may find these fun to look at. The 20th reunion had over 300 people attend. If you loan me your reunion memory book, I will be glad to scan in it and publish it on the website. MCCLERNONS With the help of Lad Wentzel and my yearbooks I've located ten members of the McClernon family who graduated from Encina: Greg McClernon 68 Dan McClernon 74 Rob McClernon 76 Julia McClernon 78 Laure McClernon 79 Rebecca McClernon 80 Emily McClernon 82 Matthew McClernon 83 Lisa McClernon 84 Mitchell McClernon 8? That's impressive! I couldn't find Mitchell McClernon. Let me know if you know what class year he was... LARSONS Tom Larson 64 points out, that in addition to have second generation sons who graduated from Encina: Bryan Larson 89 Shawn Larson 91 Tom also has three Encina siblings: Rick Larson 62 Tom Larson 64 Jane Larson 69 Jim Larson 72 HANSENS Dwight Hansen 74 wrote: I can't top six siblings who graduated from Encina, but I can match it! Dwight Hansen 74 Linda Hansen 76 Sherri Hansen 79 Todd Hansen 80 Lori Hansen 82 Kevin Hansen 88 VALLES Mary Kay Valle 72 wrote with details about her five siblings: Georgiann Valle 67 and husband Tom Rohrer 67 Carolyn Valle 69 David Valle 73 Melanie Valle 77 Tony Valle 81 Another family with six siblings who attended Encina! CORRECTION Carole Salerno 79 wrote that Denise Ford 80 could not be Aaron Ford 88's sister as she was an only child. This was my mistake. Aaron had told me his sister Denise Ford Lewis was 82 or 83. Looking through my yearbooks I came across Denise Ford 80 and assumed it was his sister. But there were two Denise Ford's at Encina who overlapped, Denise Ford 80 and Denise Ford Lewis 83. CLASS DIRECTORIES If you know of alumni who are not online but would still like to be listed in the appropriate class directory, please let me know. Please send me their name and address or phone number. Phone number is probably better than address. Alternatively, they can have a "contact webmaster" listing and I'll contact you regarding any inquiries. I would prefer a phone number if possible though, as dealing with "contact webmaster" listings is getting to be very time consuming. GREG BASILE In the latest Encina Bulldog Barks newsletter, there is an article about Greg Basile, Encina chemistry and physical science teacher, who has made homework and other information available to students on his webpage: http://home.pacbell.net/gbasile MASTERS Great Masters this year. I was rooting for Greg Norman but Olazabal was too tough. No three putts in 72 holes on those impossible Augusta greens... I read an article about how the Masters is the toughest sports event to get a ticket for. I was wondering whether any Encina alumni have attended the Masters in Augusta. And if they could get me a ticket . ENCINA ART GALLERY The Encina Art Gallery, located on campus, is celebrating its fifth anniversary with an exhibition titled "Fifth Anniversary Wood", featuring a variety of wood sculpture done by Northern California artists. Dell pays a 1% commission, which is substantial since the purchase price is large. Fatbrain.com, formerly know as Computer Literacy, sells technical books and training materials. Don't forget to support the Encina website by linking your purchases through the Encina store. This supports the Encina website at no cost to you. In the first quarter the Encina Store received $31.30 from amazon.com and $16 from CDNow. The Encina Store is an affiliate of: amazon.com Dell Computer CDnow barnesandnoble.com eToys Fogdog Sports Beyond.com Reel.com Outpost.com Cameraworld.com Fatbrain.com The commissions help defer website expenses. If you're curious about affiliate programs, I've added two articles to the Store page: http://www.encinahighschool.com/store.htm WHAT'S NEW Last week was the biggest ever in terms of new listings.
