The Class of 1999 is hosting a 40th Anniversary luncheon at for Encina and would like to invite any alumni that is interested in coming. The event is on December 17, 1998 in the Encina library and starts at lunch time (11:07 am). I would really appreciate it if you could post this announcment, and am very sorry for the short notice! If you or any other alumni would like to contact me, please email me, or call Encina and leave a message for myself or our Senior Class advisor Stacey Shomaker. The tickets are $5 presale, and $6 at the door, and if any one would be willing to help us set up, or donate food and supplies, they are more than welcome for free!!! We really need all the help we can get." Nina Shoman '99: QTnWLD99@aol.com Senior class advisor: Stacey Shomaker (916-971-7544) If you cannot attend the 40th anniversary luncheon but would like to express your support via a monetary contribution please write your check to Class of 1999 and send it to: Stacey Shomaker c/o Encina High School 1400 Bell Street Sacramento,CA 95825 SMALL WORLD Renee Vietanhans '73 wrote: "Just a little story of how small this world really is: A nice young lady started working here about a month ago. She was working with me (setting up a cool desktop wallpaper) when your message came across.  We looked to see what was going on and as I was scrolling down, she noticed Chris Kojima's name on the message. She said she had a Spanish teacher at Del Campo whose name was also Chris Kojima. I looked up in the "teacher" page and showed my friend Ms. Kojima's picture. Well......my friend just about died - Ms. Kojima was one and the same! My friend Alicia graduated from Del Campo in 1993! Pretty cool, huh?" BOOSTER CLUB Kathryn Keyes '77 writes: "I'll take up the gauntlet and will be sending a check out tomorrow to the booster club. I'm saddened to see so little support for Encina Athletics, particularly since I run the booster club and am a fundraiser for UC Davis Athletics, my second alma mater (after Encina). I'd love to come out to the games but I'm always doing events at the games here (at UCD) and they are always at the same time. Too bad Neil Young doesn't want to come to UCD to play but I can't contact him to tell him how great the program is here - that would violate NCAA regulations. (UCD won the National Championship in Division II basketball last year and football has gone to nationals that last 3 years running. Plus we won the Sears' Director's Cup the first two years it was offered for Division II ('96 & '97). ... okay I'm a little biased since I graduated from here and work in Athletics...)" Deborah Young writes: "At the Booster Club meeting last night, I was instructed to let you know that it is either illegal and/or unethical for the Booster Club to except funds for a particular person or sport. The donations would have to be for all sports divided equally. The Treasurer said it would be considered an act of money laundering. After saying all that, I did speak with the Athletic Director at EHS, and he has offered to except the donations, and disburse them through the Bulldog Foundation account that was established a couple of years ago for just the sports programs. So if you could re-advertise for those still willing to support both Neil Young's sponsorship to the Basketball tournament in Hawaii, and the donations needed to support the Basketball Team, to write checks out to the "Bulldog Foundation", we would be appreciative! I don't want to get anyone in trouble! The Booster Club has decided to take a month to month approach in continuing with the Bingo fund-raising efforts. The Sacramento County Non-Profit Division is in the process of authorizing electronic Bingo into the halls here in Sacramento. Once this has passed, it is projected that Bingo will be a successful fund-raiser activity again.  Therefore, the Encina Bingo core volunteer team has offered to stay on at least to the end of February, to give it a chance. The Encina Bingo needs all the volunteers available to start coming and working each Sunday from 10:00 am through 4:30 pm, to make this work!" Bottom line, please send donations to "Bulldog Foundation" if you wish to specifically support Neil Young and the basketball team. Donations to the "Encina Booster Club" will be divided equally among all sports. BASKETBALL Deborah Young writes: "I reviewed the tape last night of the Rio Linda Basketball game this past Monday, and a name I omitted that should be mentioned is Reondray Walker who earned the second highest points made!" HALL OF FAME Eric Mandell '71 nominated the following alumni for the Hall of Fame: "Sherilyn Wolter, class of '68 starred as Celia Quartermaine on General Hospital during the "Luke and Laura" years. She also appeared on BJ and  the Bear and on at least one episode of "Who's the Boss." Harry Stockman ('68 or '69) was a longtime weatherman on Channel's 10 and 13. Tom Duhain (again '68 or '69) has had a variety of on-air positions at Channel 3. Vicky Liviakis ('72) was a news personality at KZAP, news director at KFRC and has reported or anchored television feature and news shows in  Sacramento, San Francisco and LA. Currently, she anchors the nationally  syndicated "Travel Update." Scott Plotkin ('71) was student body president at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Director of Governmental Relations for the California State University System, and has been on the Rio Linda School Board for eons." Hey that's far out, I didn't know Encina had several TV personalities! If you know which class Harry Stockman and Tom Duhain were in (68 or 69) or how to contact them, please let me know. Hey, I wonder if they could give the Encina website a plug on the air??? And Vicky Liviakis is on the Encina email list. How about it Vicky? CLASS VIDEOS Shawn Campbell '82 writes: The class of '82 video was produced by Vince Thompson '82. Yes, it was late in getting to it's premier, but it finally made it after a lot of people gave up. You can reach Vince at VinceThompson@aol.com. The Class of '80 Senior Film also exists...entitled "80 Rules"...produced by Shawn Campbell. He can be reached at Shawn@ross-campbell.com STORE Toy e-tailers Web shopping favorites Traffic to toy sellers' Web sites jumped 56 percent during the first holiday shopping week beginning the day after Thanksgiving, when compared to the average weekly traffic for November. Internet traffic measurement company Media Metrix also reported that while visits to toy sites increased significantly, specialty clothing site traffic also rose "modestly" in the week following Thanksgiving. "The demographic of the people using toy sites, younger adults with children, provides solid evidence that this segment of commerce sites is being accepted by its target audience as an attractive alternative to the crowded malls," said the firm's vice president of research Ted Hawthorne.
