I remember Miss Esparcia being quoted about how it was a shame that the school had to remove the tile Apache mural in the entry hall of the gym." No, say it isn't so! Not the Apache mural! I tried to search the Sacramento Bee website archive but it only goes back to July 15, 1996. If someone in Sacramento would be nice enough to visit the Sacramento Bee offices or call the Sacramento Bee historian to gather more information that would be great. I would like to see the article that Sheryl West '68 mentioned that the Bee wrote about the Encina name change. Curiously enough, when I searched the Bee archives I found that Vallejo HS still uses the Apaches as a mascot. CLASS OF 1971 The class of 1971 homepage is online under webmaster Care Johnson 71. Michael Billings 71 is the new reunion contact. Check it out! DAN DICKISON Dan Dickison '73 had an article published in the August 27th issue of Sports Illustrated. "It's a piece about a woman, the only woman, sailing in an around the world yacht race that started this past weekend. Her name is Isabelle Autissier." Dan was the former associate editor of Sailing World magazine. YEARBOOKS Many thanks to Heddy Crowder who scanned in yearbook covers and title pages for the yearbooks I was missing (61,66,90-98). Encina has a complete set of archival yearbooks. If you're interested please see the Yearsbooks page: for a complete set of yearbook covers from 1959 to 1998. Some of the covers are quite good while others are a little different. The title pages for some years are particularly interesting, especially 1990-1998. The 1990 yearbook talks about the "Last of the Apaches": while the 1992 yearbook shows the new Bulldog mascot: Encina underwent a lot of changes in the 90s which are apparent in the Yearbooks. Very interesting. REFERENCE YEARBOOKS I am trying to collect a complete set of Encina yearbooks. As I mentioned before, the years 1979 through the present are still available at Encina from the finance office. See the Yearbook page for details: I use the yearbooks to look people up, etc. I have the yearbooks 1970-1989 and intend to buy 1990-1998. However the years 1959-1969 are no longer available from Encina. If you would like to sell, donate, loan me your 1959-69 yearbook I would appreciate it very much. I know there are some alumni couples who have two sets of yearbooks. And this is kind of a morbid thought, but if you know of a classmate who's passed away, perhaps their family would be willing to donate the old yearbooks to a good cause... NETMIND I've added NetMind buttons to all the class directories and some of the most frequently referenced pages. This is a cool (FREE) service which notifies you by email when a page is modified. All you have to do is enter your email address in the NetMind box and register. From then on, whenever the page is changed you'll receive an email. You can even have the page itself included in the notificiation email.
