Date: Mon Dec 4, 2000 4:42 pm Subject: Encina Senior Guide/Freshman Feast ENCINA ALUMNI, Steve Palmer 74 wrote and asked me to send out a special update asking the alumni to support the Encina Senior Guide program. I would like to encourage alumni to support this program and demonstrate your school spirit by giving generously this holiday season. Please demonstrate that YOUR CLASS has the most school spirit! Note that the feast is December 11th, so there's not much time. Please don't procastinate! Harlan Lau 73 --------------------------------- The Senior Guide/Freshman Feast ** ALUMNI CHALLENGE ** December 11, 2000 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Encina Cafeteria Senior Guides is a great program that Encina has developed that pairs seniors with freshman to provide mentoring, friendship and guidance through their first year. Interested seniors apply to become guides, fill out an application and go through an oral interview to be accepted. All freshman have a guide, while each senior provides guidance to about 8-10 freshman. At the last meeting of Senior Guides the idea of providing a feast to welcome freshman into the program was discussed. This would give freshman and seniors more contact with each other and provide for a way to celebrate the holidays. Many of the students do not have the opportunity to celebrate the holidays in this way. You may have thought of lots of ways to help people during the holidays. This is one great way to help kids you know! Becky Hurley, Activities Director, called to see if alumni could help. After seeing the tremendous response and enthusiasm demonstrated at the Homecoming game, I told her that Encina alumni would love to be a part. The feast will provide full dinners for 225 freshman, senior guides and participating adults. The feast includes, turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, corn, cranberry sauce, stuffing, rolls, punch, dessert and more. The cost of the turkeys have been covered by the rotary club, leaving about $500 in remaining food costs. Seniors, staff, parents (and interested alum) will prepare and serve the feast. You can help our school by donating the food items directly or by sending a tax deductible contribution to: Encina High School c/o Senior Guides Program 1400 Bell Street Sacramento, CA 95825 If you would like to donate food, tableware or other items, please call or email, so I can coordinate. Additionally you are welcome to attend the feast, help cook or serve, or just enjoy the dinner. If you plan to come, please RSVP to spalmer@innotek.com. THE CHALLENGE... I am committing the class of 74 to $150 toward the feast and know my classmates will support me in this effort. I hear about other classes with spirit (61, 73, 75, 78, 81, 85, 86, 91, ...). Who will join the GREAT class of 74 to help the class of '04 have a great holiday dinner!! Call or email a few friends a pull your class together. Thanks in advance from Encina kids and staff.
